January 31 Bracket: Sooners regain spot on top line

January 31, 2009 bracketguy Leave a comment

Oklahoma’s full body of work and their potential as strong Big 12 favorite has propelled the Sooners back to the top line of our January 31 NCAA Projection bracket here at Bracketville.  We also note that Connecticut has taken over as the No. 1 overall seed.  How long will that last?  The teams at the very top are tightly bunched.  Also on the top line: Wake Forest and Duke.

Take a look now at our latest bracket projection (1/31) in Bracketology.

We will now be updating the bracket twice a week: Monday (evenings) and Saturday (mornings).  We’ll continue this trend through February with more frequent updates in March and daily updates (as needed) during Championship Week.  As always, please send us a rebound – Dave the Bracketguy.

Bracket Update: Middle-muddled as January fades

January 26, 2009 bracketguy Leave a comment

We’re starting to verify the contenders for No. 1 seeds.   The remaining Field of 65 is much less predictable or solidified.  As we approach the end of January – Connecticut, Pittsburgh, Louisville, Michigan State, North Carolina, and even Duke are about where we expected.   Seed lines 3-10 are much less qualified.  Balancing performance and potential is starting to sway toward performance.  That will continue to evolve as we reach the halfway point of conference play.

The January 26 bracket is now posted in Bracketology.  We also announce that starting this week, we plan to update the Bracket on Monday and early Saturday. Read more…

Deacons reach top line in Bracketville’s latest update

January 19, 2009 bracketguy Leave a comment

Perhaps they should have earned No. 1 status last week, but Wake Forest has certainly earned a No. 1 seed in latest NCAA Tournament projections here at Bracketville.  Just as important to us – and another reason why the Deacons made it to the top line – is that WF appears to have staying power and the “look” of a Final Four contender.  Remember, we base projects on not only current results (through 1/18 in this bracket), but also on a team’s overall profile and expectations.    Our other No. 1 seeds are Duke (Midwest), Connecticut (East), Wake Forest (South), and Pittsburgh (West).  For the first time, Carolina has fallen just below the cutline and is the highest No. 2 seed.

Our latest update (January 19) is now available in Bracketville’s Bracketology.  Updates are made every Monday right now, and will be twice a week in February.  Read more…

An early look at the NCAA Tournament Bubble

January 15, 2009 bracketguy Leave a comment

Part of March Madness is the endless – and fun – discussions that precipitate the Field of 65 on Selection Sunday. We’re about two weeks away from the official release of Bubble Banter here at Bracketville. Hopefully, it will generate some fun and lively debate. To that end, how about an early look at some teams we expect to “banter” about in February. Keep in mind, we’re not even halfway through the conference season.  So this could easily change (even in two weeks).  Here we go … Read more…
