Bracketology: Weak bubble sets up crazy finish

Sorry for the later than usual posting on Friday evening.  Had some obligations that took longer than expected.  More importantly, the bottom half of the latest bracket projection here at Bracketville ’09 remains very fluid as teams hit the final stretch run.  It would be as easy to make a case against seeds 10 and lower as to their inclusion.  Evaluating a team’s closing schedule plays a role in setting the final selections.  Overall performance to date, however, carries more weight at this juncture of the season.

The February 20 bracket is posted now in Bracketology.

USC, Michigan, and Penn State slide in this edition.  San Diego State, UNLV, and Kansas State fall out.  In particular, KSU’s decision to schedule NCCU (300+RPI) this late the season caused their already weak RPI to take a dive.  The good news is, several bubble teams go head-to-head over the next two weeks and will sort out some issues in league standings, etc.  Look for more on Saturday in an Around the Rim column.  We’ll be updating Bubble Banter on Sunday.
