Bracket Bits: Big week of Holiday hoops

Dave2015We certainly had an unpredictable non-conference season. Now, it’s time to get serious. Conference play begins.  The cupcakes have disappeared from the shelves. Our next bracket update is only a New Year away.

With that noted, here’s a sneak peak at some notable “bracket” games between now and then … see the full Schedule for a complete list of upcoming key games.

Tuesday, December 29

  • SMU at Tulsa – Golden Hurricanes need to add quality W’s to their resume.
  • Florida State at Florida – Would be a nice “get” for either.
  • Connecticut at Texas – A road win would put a stamp on an otherwise good, but not great, non-conference season for the Huskies.  The Longhorns would love to back up their win over Carolina.
  • Richmond at Texas Tech – Two teams that could end up being “on the bubble” in March.

Wednesday, December 30

  • Seton Hall at Marquette – Big East opener for both, and as of this writing, both teams are near the cutline.
  • Syracuse at Pittsburgh – Questions remain for the Orange and the Panthers.  Pitt lost its only outing (Purdue) against a team currently in the Field.
  • Fresno State at UNLV – The Mountain West race figures to be wide open.

Thursday, December 31

  • Providence at Butler – A Big East tilt between two league title contenders.
  • Xavier at Villanova – See game above.
  • BYU at Saint Mary’s – Will a second West Coast Conference team earn a bid?  It’s an uphill battle against Gonzaga.

Until the weekend, enjoy your slate of college hoops.
