Bracket Bits: Butler / Xavier headline weekend hoops

Dave2015What a weekend for college hoops – headlined by a matchup of Big East contenders who are coming off losses on New Year’s Eve – Butler and Xavier.  The Cintas Center in Cincinnati will be rocking.

Given the New Year’s Day bracket – and weekly updates to follow – here’s a quick peek at this weekend’s action as it relates to the current “bracket” landscape:

Seeding Games (based on where we stand at time of writing)

  • Butler at Xavier
  • Baylor at Kansas
  • Iowa at Purdue
  • Iowa State at Oklahoma
  • Louisville at Wake Forest
  • Arizona at Arizona State

Bubble Games …

  • Kansas State (vs West Virginia)
  • Florida State (at Clemson)
  • Saint Joseph’s at Richmond
  • Texas Tech (vs Texas)
  • Syracuse (at Miami-FL)
  • Notre Dame (at Virginia)
  • Marquette at Georgetown
  • Memphis at South Carolina
  • Indiana (at Nebraska)
  • Ole Miss (at Kentucky)
  • Florida (vs Georgia)
  • Northern Iowa (at So. Illinois)
  • USC (at Washington)
  • Oregon State (vs. Oregon)
  • California (vs. Utah)
  • Colorado (at Stanford)

It shouldn’t be a surprise that we have more bubble games than seeding games at this point.  The Seed List remains quite fluid once you move past No. 20 or so.  As conference play unfolds, resumes will begin to separate and take shape.  That said, given what we’ve seen during the first two months of the college hoops season, we can expect a wild and deep bubble come mid-February and early March.
