Quick Takes: Moving Day in college hoops
If you’re a golf fan, you’ll understand the reference to Moving Day. Moving Day in a Major tournament is Saturday. It’s the day when golfers position themselves for the final round on Sunday. Today is a Moving Day in college hoops.
Bubble teams Kansas State, Illinois, Iowa, California, and Vanderbilt- among others – take the court with a lot on the line. The same can be said, potentially, for Xavier, and even USC, although both helped themselves by avoiding a bad loss on Wednesday. Elsewhere, middle of the bracket teams like Michigan and Northwestern look to solidify their positions.
It’s also a day when North Carolina takes the court and begins its final trek toward a potential No. 1 seed in the South Region. Then there’s the competition for spots along the two, three, and four lines.
As for Syracuse and Wake Forest, their seasons are now complete. We’ve entered unchartered territory with the Orange, who now boast an RPI of 84 and a 2-11 record away from the Carrier Dome. They also have six Top 50 wins (four against definite tourney teams). Syracuse may yet end up back in the bracket, but it could well depend on what happens today and Friday.
