Preseason: Projected Conference Champions

Dave2015Come Selection Sunday, 68 teams will receive a bid to the 2018 NCAA tournament.  Of those, 32 will be automatic qualifiers, meaning the Selection Committee enters those teams based upon winning their conference title (i.e. tournament).  Although conference tournaments are often unpredictable, below are my projected conference champions – teams that will be a part of our preseason bracket …

Power Conference Champions:

  • American: Wichita State
  • Atlantic 10: Rhode Island
  • ACC: Duke
  • Big Ten: Michigan State
  • Big 12: Kansas
  • Big East: Villanova
  • Pac-12: Arizona
  • SEC: Kentucky

Additional Conference Champions:

  • America East: Vermont
  • Atlantic Sun: Florida Gulf Coast
  • Big Sky: Idaho
  • Big South: UNC-Asheville
  • Big West: UC-Irvine
  • Colonial: Charleston
  • Conference USA: Middle Tennessee
  • Horizon: Oakland
  • Ivy: Harvard
  • MAC: Western Michigan
  • MAAC: Iona
  • MEAC: Morgan State
  • Missouri Valley: Missouri State
  • Mountain West: Nevada
  • Northeast: St. Francis (Pa)
  • Ohio Valley: Murray State
  • Patriot: Bucknell
  • Southern: Furman
  • Southland: Northwestern State
  • Summit: South Dakota State
  • Sun Belt: Georgia Southern
  • SWAC: Texas-Southern
  • WAC: Grand Canyon

We’ll see how it plays out.  Come March, many of these names will likely change.  That’s what great about college hoops, it’s a fun-filled, unpredictable ride.  Enjoy.
