Preseason Bracket: Arizona, Duke headline Field

Dave2015The best part of compiling a preseason bracket? Another college basketball season is about to begin.  The worst part? No games have been played.  No data points collected.  No wins or losses.  Nothing to compare and contrast. For the most part, the bracket comes down to speculation, expectation, and some good ole’ fashioned guess work.

Here’s what we think we know: Arizona, Duke, Michigan State, and Kansas are among a handful of teams expected to be good enough to challenge for No. 1 seeds … the Southeastern Conference (SEC) should be much improved, top to bottom …  so should the American, especially with the addition of Wichita State …. the top of the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) is loaded again, even if the depth of the league has some unanswered questions … and, then there’s the Big East, where Villanova remains the favorite, but strong competition lurks in more than a few places. Preseason: Familiar names top Seed List

Dave2015As we embark on another journey toward Selection Sunday, our preseason leader in the clubhouse is … Arizona.  Despite some off-season turmoil, the Wildcats have their sights set on a Final Four appearance in San Antonio.  Who joins them as projected No. 1 seeds? How about these Blue Bloods: Duke, Michigan State, and Kansas.

You can debate the order.  Some prefer Duke or Michigan State in first place.  Solid cases can be made for both.  As for the Jayhawks, they keep reloading, favored to win yet another Big 12 crown.  Will all four reach the Final Four?  History suggests otherwise.  There are simply too many variables, especially during a one-and-done tournament.  But each team has the roster, coaching, and cache to make the final weekend of college hoops.
