Seed List: Duke jumps to No. 1

Dave2015I have no idea who would win if Duke and Kansas played today.  But I do know that Duke beat Kentucky by 34 points at the Champions Classic and looked the part of a No. 1 overall seed.  So as of this morning – five days into the season – that’s where the Blue Devils now reside on the Seed List.

Seed List

Elsewhere, Buffalo moves up after an overtime win at West Virginia. More importantly, the Bulls banked a power-worthy non-conference victory that has the chance to garner some major interest down the road.

Other notable climbers include Florida State and Auburn.  Both the Seminoles and Tigers posted dominate wins against what we think are quality opponents (Florida and Washington).  Ohio State also leaped a few spots after its road win at Cincinnati.

Teams with notable early losses include Baylor (Texas-Southern) and Loyola-Chicago (Furman).  Maybe no one, though, had a tougher week than George Mason. The Patriots dropped back-to-back games to Penn and American.

Given that we’re less than a week into a long season, the Seed List remains a highly subjective work-in-progress.  The preseason list was a starting point.  Today is merely another step along an arduous journey.
