Quick Takes: Tx-Southern strikes again

Dave2015Texas Southern has spent the opening four weeks of its college basketball season traveling the country collecting game checks.  It’s the accepted life of many low-major Division I programs.  The notable mention, here, is that along the way the Tigers have managed to cash in a couple of victories –  the first on opening night against Baylor in Waco, the second on Monday as the Tigers clipped Oregon in Eugene.  If you’re a fan of Arizona State, Georgia, or Texas AM, beware.  Texas-Southern is coming to a campus near you in December.

More Quick Takes …

  • Nebraska picked up a golden road win at Clemson to open the Big Ten-ACC Challenge. We’ll see how that registers on the NET (the NCAA’s new ranking system).
  • Minnesota couldn’t double-up for the B10, losing at Boston College – a reminder that true road wins are, in fact, “golden.”
  • Villanova looked more like the team we expected in Orlando. Back-to-back wins over Oklahoma State and Florida State help heal those early bruises against Michigan and Furman.
  • Murray State gave Alabama all it wanted but came up a few points short.  It should be a fun OVC race between the Racers and the Belmont Bruins.
  • Did we mention that Oregon lost to Texas-Southern?
  • Which leads us to this question? Which is the best team in the Pac 12?

We may not know the answer to that final question for a while.  Check back in January.
