Quick Takes: LSU delivers SEC message

Dave2015Given its 23-point second-half comeback at Louisville, Duke will steal many of the headlines and highlights today.  That’s understandable.  But there was an equally compelling road heist that occurred a few hours earlier and a few miles away in Lexington, where the LSU Tigers rallied past Kentucky at Rupp Arena.  Safe to say, it was a stunning night in the Commonwealth.

With its victory, LSU now stands at 10-1 in the SEC, having won six straight league road games in the process.  In case you were wondering, that’s pretty good.  The Tigers also have the benefit (or detriment in terms of elite wins, I suppose) of only playing Kentucky and Tennessee once during the regular season.  LSU hosts the Volunteers a week from Saturday.  It’s officially a three-horse race for the SEC crown.

Additional Quick Takes:

  • Michigan dropped a road game at Penn State.  The Wolverines just aren’t as sharp as they were in November and December.
  • Meanwhile, Michigan State won at Wisconsin to reclaim a share of the Big Ten lead.  The two remaining matchups with MSU and Michigan are looming larger by the day.
  • Kansas State kept its two-game leading the Big 12 by winning at Texas.
  • As a result, the Longhorns added another loss to an already double-digit L column, leaving their ultimate NCAA status in question.
  • Maryland repaid Purdue for a close loss at Mackey Arena.  Good win for the Terps.
  • Elsewhere, it was another bad night for the bubble.  Butler lost at St. John’s and Arkansas lost at Missouri.  Will it ever end?
