Quick Takes: USU stumbles at UNLV

Dave2015Winning conference road games is never easy, regardless of the opponent.  So it’s certainly not shocking to learn that Utah State stumbled at UNLV.  The bigger question is how the Aggies navigate their Mountain West Conference journey moving forward.

USU’s non-conference profile includes neutral-court wins over LSU and Florida and losses to Saint Mary’s and BYU.  As it stands this morning, San Diego State and perhaps New Mexico (coming off a loss at San Jose State – gulp) are the best opportunities for Quad 1 and/or 2 wins moving forward – making Saturday’s home date with SDSU an important marker on the Aggies’ Team Sheet.

Additional Quick Takes …

  • Marquette has an interesting profile.  Following Wednesday’s loss at Creighton, the Golden Eagles are 0-3 vs. Quad 1 and 3-0 vs. Quad 2.  And those Quad 2 wins are against Purdue, USC, and Kansas State.  Does that sound bubbly to you?
  • Cincinnati took down Connecticut at home.  League performance is going to be critical for the Bearcats, who put together a less-than-ideal non-league profile that includes losses to Bowling Green and Colgate.
  • UConn is in the American mix, too, but likewise needs a strong league showing.  The Huskies have wins over Florida and Miami to go along with an early loss to Saint Joseph’s.
  • Southern Conference favorites East Tennessee State and UNC-Greensboro both opened league play with victories.
