Quick Takes: Saturday’s impacts include X marking its spot

Dave2015Another wild Saturday of college hoops began with Xavier trumping Seton Hall in New Jersey, giving the Musketeers their best win of this season (even though some fans might enjoy beating Cincinnati more).  The fact that it came on the road was even better.  Perhaps just as important, XU finally looked like the team we expected to see in November. Which leads us to a rather simple question: Where does X go from here?  There’s plenty of work left to do for a team that had lost 5 of 6 Big East games prior to Saturday.

Late on Saturday, San Diego State rallied from a half-time deficit at home to pull away from Utah State, keeping the Aztecs’ perfect season in tact.  Although SDSU has a couple of tricky road trips left (Boise State, Nevada), it’s looking more and more likely the Aztecs will enter the Mountain West Tournament undefeated.

There’s this interesting tidbit, too … Gonzaga still has road trips through BYU and Saint Mary’s.  A loss to either would open the door (if not already) for San Diego State to be the No. 1 seed in the West Region.  Either way, with Oregon’s loss to Stanford, it’s appears that Gonzaga and SDSU may be the top two seeds out West.
