Bracketology: Selection Committee tabs Gonzaga for West Region

Dave2015There’s been a lot of discussion about whether Gonzaga or San Diego State would be the No. 1 seed in the West Region if today were Selection Sunday.  We got a glimpse into how the Selection Committee would handle that debate on Saturday, and the Committee placed Gonzaga in the West – with San Diego State slotted to the East Region.

Overall, there were no surprises on the top line, with Baylor entrenched as the No. 1 overall seed, followed by Kansas.  The Bears would lead the South, with KU in the Midwest.  That’s how the bracket here has looked for about three weeks.

In all, 15 of the 16 top four seed lines in Friday’s bracket projection were the same as those revealed by the Selection Committee (with a couple variations in the order).  The one difference … Kentucky was No. 16 on the Seed List here; Michigan State was the Committee’s No. 16 team (the final No. 4 seed) before games this past weekend.
Since the Committee stopped with 16 teams, we have little indication about how they might view a plethora of bubble outfits.  Then again, that’s probably just as well.  With five weeks to go, the lower end of the bracket will change multiple times.

On a final note, since the Committee has spoken, a couple of team locations and seed line placements have been adjusted in today’s bracket to coincide with what we learned on Saturday.
