QT: Texas rebounds; Bracket Impact Games
Texas returned to Austin and rebounded from Saturday’s loss at Tennessee by outlasting Baylor. The Longhorns are now 7-4 vs. Quad 1and well positioned for a high seed in March.
Iowa State was ahead 59-36 midway through the second half at Texas Tech before collapsing and losing in overtime. The stunning turn of events follows a rather lopsided loss at Missouri on Saturday. Overall, ISU has dropped three of four. Next up? A visit from Kansas on Saturday.
Virginia needed a late rally but won at Syracuse. No damage done.
Tuesday’s Bracket Impact Games:
- Texas AM at Arkansas – Razorbacks are 4-6 with their current lineup (minus Nick Smith, Jr. and Trevon Brazile) and were among sitting among the First Four on Monday. Texas AM enters as the first team out. Potential swing game for both.
- Virginia Tech at Miami – Following a seven-game slide, VT has won two straight to regain some traction. Nice opportunity to keep building. Miami trying to hold its bracket position.
- San Diego State at Nevada – The Wolfpack were among the First Four OUT on Monday. Chance to add another Quad 1 win at home, where the Pack are 9-0 this season.
- Kentucky at Ole Miss – A “hold” game for UK. Among the final teams IN on Monday, Wildcats cannot afford what would likely be a Quad 3 loss.
- Indiana at Maryland – Terrapins sat one spot above the First Four Byes on Monday. Opportunity to climb a spot or two. Big week for IU as the Hoosiers host league-leading Purdue this weekend.
- Kansas State at Kansas – Jayhawks remain a strong No. 1 seed candidate. KSU going for a season sweep, which would be a huge tally for the Wildcats.
- Northwestern at Iowa – Makeup game due to Northwestern’s COVID pause. Iowa is coming off a sweep of Rutgers and trying to solidify a spot in the upper half of the bracket. Hawkeyes also host Illinois this weekend.
