QT: Final results on this year’s bracket

QuickTakeNewSince November, I’ve tried to provide insights into how the Field of of 68 is selected and seeded.  This year, Championship Week provided a variety of additional hurdles – but what a week!.  Here are this year’s projection results:

2024 Bracket Projection Results:

  • 67 of 68 teams selected correctly (I had Oklahoma as last team in vs. Virginia).
  • 45 teams seeded on their exact seed line.
  • 16 additional teams seeded within one of their exact seed line.
  • 61 of 68 either on their seed line or within one.
  • Paymon Score for the Bracket Matrix: 352
  • Teams I had off by more than one one seed line: Florida Atlantic, Nevada, New Mexico, Boise State, Dayton, Gonzaga
  • UPDATE: Finished 5th in the 2024 Bracket Matrix

Overall, another solid season.  For various reasons, the Selection Committee did not value the Mountain West collectively as strong as metrics would indicate.  For me, that meant I was a tad too high on Nevada, New Mexico and Boise State.

Based on the actual seed list, Gonzaga swapped places with BYU in the bracket due to BYU’s Thursday-Saturday site restriction data.  Those are things that can happen (but should be avoided if at all possible, IMO).

Much appreciate to everyone who has followed along.  Here’s to a great NCAA tournament!
