Bracketology: Volunteers vault to No. 1 Seed

Bracket68TeamWith Tennessee’s victory at Alabama this past weekend, the Volunteers edge past Arizona for the Final No. 1 seed, dropping the Wildcats to the top two-seed (No. 5 overall).  Tennessee now resides at No. 1 in the West Region, followed by Arizona.  Elsewhere on the top line, Houston edges past Connecticut for the No. 2 overall spot, meaning the top-line seed order is now Purdue, Houston, Connecticut and Tennessee.  While the top three are all destined for No. 1 seeds, the order could change (again) before Selection Sunday.

Switching to the 2-seeds, the race is on for Seed Line spots 7 through 9; the final 2-seeds and the top 3-seed.  Heading into the final week of the regular season, Marquette guard Tyler Kolek is missing due to an injury.  If he comes back as scheduled for the Big East tournament, and plays well, the Committee will likely account for his absence and return.  That’s a storyline worth following.  This morning, Baylor and Iowa State land as the final No. 2 seeds, with Marquette on top of the 3-line – still routing through Indianapolis and Detroit in the Midwest.
